Gambling is a restricted activity in India (but), while authorities do on occasion raid live gambling clubs, they are not concerned with online bookies and internet betting on cricket, football, or other sports. This is even truer when dealing with European bookmakers that are legal and licensed in the countries they operate in.
So long as you’re gambling in private from the comfort of your own home, using an internet connection, you’re unlikely to have an issue when using an online bookmaker based in the United Kingdom or Gibraltar. On this page I’ll cover the most reputable India friendly sports betting sites, including how Indians can deposit, wager and withdrawal in Indian Rupees.
#1 – Bet365 is Number 1 for India Residents (Accepts Rupees Directly)
Bet365 is one the largest bookmakers in the world. Their history dates back to 1974 when Peter Coates (current owner of English Premier League football club Stoke City) began opening live betting shops in London. With 49 shops part of his franchise at the time, in 2000, his daughter Denise Coates purchased the domain name www.bet365.com for £10,000 from e-bay and used it to expand the family business globally. As the first high street bookmaker to embrace the internet their success came rapidly. Today their website is available in 17 languages and 29 currencies. With 1500 employees and more than 5 million customers in over 200 countries, Bet365 is now the UK’s 7th largest private company.
If you read our Bet365 review – you can learn about all the amazing offers they have on hand. Perhaps the biggest reason to wager here: Bet365 accepts Indian Rupee. To learn how this works see our pages on depositing from India and cashing out from India.
Dafabet is an all around betting site offering casino, sports betting, poker and horse racing. www.dafabet.com caters to Indian players by accepting Indian Rupees directly which is something that a site like William Hill lacks. They have fewer deposit options than most other sites, but they do offer the two most important for Indian players, being Neteller and Skrill. They would be higher on the list if not for their small selection of cricket betting options, particularly for India. They do offer international events such as the ICC Trophy which India competes in, but we have found very few opportunities to bet on IPL which is disappointing. So far we have only found the ability to bet on the outright winner of entire tournaments, rather than individual games. They do have a decent selection of international soccer odds, which is mostly what we use them for when it comes to sports betting.
We don’t recommend them for serious sports bettors given their small selection of betting options, we prefer to use them for casino gaming and poker. They offer a great selection of casino games including our favorites of roulette, slots, and blackjack.
#3 Indio Casino
While we are primarily devoted to providing information on sports betting, we felt the need to mention a site that specifically caters to Indian casino players. www.indiocasino.com openly accepts Indian players as well as INR directly for deposit. Another thing that is very attractive for this site is that it has the highest credit card acceptance rate for Indian players among all gaming sites. If you are interesting in casino betting, Indio Casino is our preferred site for casino games. They offer a great selection of standard casino games as well as live casino action with live dealers.
#4 is William Hill
Making the list of recommended online bookmakers friendly to India is www.williamhill.com. It is easy to find a live walk in betting shop with their brand name in London as it is to find a petrol pump anywhere else in the world. At William Hill you can use all the usual deposit methods such as Moneybookers, Neteller, and EntroPay to deposit in your choice of GBP, USD, or EUR. The reason to consider them over rupee bookmakers is their early odds. William Hill has approximately 25% market share in the UK. What this means is for English Premier League, or even international cricket where India and England are competing – the odds generally open up at William Hill before they do other sites. If you’re looking to lock in value early, having an account at William Hill is a near must.
As is the case with Bet365 and William Hill offers sports betting, casino, horse racing, poker and bingo all from the same website. They hold a UK gambling license for their walk in betting shops and a Gibraltar license for their internet division. The great news is they are also registered with IBAS which is has authority to mitigate in the event of any disputes between bookmakers and their clients. As we cover on our William Hill Review, this is a very safe website to wager at, and they are highly friendly to Indians.
#5 is the Betfair Betting Exchange
Betfair is the world’s largest betting exchange. In case you’re not familiar with this concept, users of betting exchanges wager not against the house, but rather against each other. Although there are other exchanges available online, none has the anywhere close to the liquidity of Betfair where more than £50 million is wagered each week. At www.betfair.com you can use their website almost like you would a traditional bookmaker because almost every market already has a pool of lay bets available for you to back. If this sounds at all confusing, don’t worry it is covered in detail on our Betfair review as well as on our page about Live Betting.
The one important thing to point out is Betfair does not deal in Indian Rupee – INR. However using your rupee Moneybookers or Neteller account you can deposit here easily in your choice of USD, GBP or EUR. The exchange rate given generally runs between 0.75% and 1.50% of the true exchange rate. Considering the odds available at Betfair are so much better than they are at rupee bookmakers – making this currency exchange is still well worth it.
