By the end of the second day of the first Test between India and England, the hosts are clearly going to have to put in their best efforts. England finished on 537 in the first innings at the Test match played in Rajkot.
England’s Ben Stokes ended with a total of 128 and Moeen Ali ended with 117, which helped the England team reach their total of 537. Both Ali and Stokes had achieved their fourth Test centuries in this match. England has achieved three centuries so far in the India – England Test.
Ali was removed by Mohammed Shami as Shami’s ball went on to hit the stumps, giving India a chance to turn things around. Stokes had remained in the game until he was caught behind by Umesh Yadav. India’s Umesh, Shami, and Ravi Ashwin each took two wickets, while Jadeja took three. Amit Mishra took only one wicket, the final England wicket of the day.
By the end of the second day of the Test, India were in a good position, having fought back hard. The day ended with India at 63 for none in 23 overs, with Gautam Gambhir and Murali Vijay still at the crease. India’s openers have done an excellent job so far. Vijay scored 58 (not out) while Gambhir ended the day with 28 (not out).
Although England has certainly dominated this Test match so far, India has ended the day with confidence. England currently has a lead of 474 runs. India will be working hard, using its top batsmen in a bid to gain the lead.
With the second day ending as it did, both teams have a chance at winning. England had a strong start, and ended on a high note. India have set themselves up for a good beginning with ending the day with both starters not out. Only time will tell in which direction this Test will go.
