Ishant Sharma has recently shown his incredible fast bowling skills in the Test series that took place against Sri Lanka. It was expected that Sharma would be playing in the Delhi Ranji squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy.
It appears, however, that he will not be picked for the team. The reason given is that he did not respond to a phone call and text message from the team’s chief selector. Sharma is currently at a training camp that is taking place in Bangalore.
Vinay Lamba, the chairman of the Delhi Ranji team’s selection committee, said: “[Ishant] didn’t answer our call, nor responded to my text.”
When challenged on sidelining Sharma, Lamba said: “He is our senior bowler, how can we say that about him? But we tried to get in touch with him yesterday, and he didn’t respond. I left a text, but didn’t get a reply.”
Sharma will be available to play domestic cricket until the Tests begin in November. He was not selected to play in the limited over Indian team that will be playing against South Africa. The series against South Africa will take place in India.
The Delhi squad will be captained by Gautum Gambhir, with Unmukt Chand as the vice captain. The wicketkeeper is Mohit Ahlawat. The rest of the team’s players are Vaibhav Rawal, Kshitij Rana, Dhruv Shaurya, Pulkit Narang, Sumit Narwal, Sarang Rawat, Milind Kumar, Yogesh Nagar, Manan Sharma, Parvinder Awana, Pradeep Sangwan, and Pawan Suyal.
Another notable omission is Rajat Bhatia. Although Bhatia has played well for Delhi for the last few years, and averaged an amount of 34 runs, reaching a total number of 305 runs when he played for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy. He is a good all-rounder in cricket and has played for a number of teams apart from Delhi.
