Dhoni Has Reason to Smile

India - MS DhoniWhile the Indian cricket team did not manage to make history by winning three one-day international cricket tournaments when the team lost the World Twenty20 to Sri Lanka, Mahendra Singh Dhoni still has reason to smile. The Indian cricket team’s captain is not only a top quality cricket player, he is also an excellent captain for the Indian cricket team, and his hard work and skill have once again been recognized.

MS Dhoni recently won the 2014 Asian award for his cricket achievements. The award he won is for outstanding achievement in sports. Unfortunately for Dhoni, he was unable to accept this award in person since the ceremony took place in London while Dhoni was playing cricket in the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.

“Dhoni is widely regarded as one of the greatest finishers in limited overs cricket,” said the citation. The citation also noted that the India cricket team has won a number of trophies during the time that Dhoni has been the team’s captain. Most recently, the team won the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, and in 2011, the team won the ICC Cricket World Cup. The team also won the CB Series of 2007-08, and the 2007 ICC World Twenty20.

It was noted: “In 2013, Dhoni became the first captain to win all three ICC trophies. Dhoni was ranked 16th on the Forbes list of highest paid athletes.”

Although Dhoni was unable to be there in person, he did send a message that he asked to have read out at the awards ceremony that took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel. Dhoni’s message was read out by Ramprakash, the former England cricketer who would have presented Dhoni with his award. Dhoni’s message said that he was dedicating this award to his fans both in Asia and around the world.
