In what has been one of the most exciting ICC World Cup Twenty20 cricket matches so far this year, India beat Australia with 161 – 4 to Australia’s 160 – 6. This win has taken India through to the semi finals, where the host team will be playing against the West Indies team.
There is no question that Virat Kholi was the star of the match, taking the India team to a victory. Kohli ended with 82 and five balls to spare. He made more than half the runs for the Indian team’s win. Kohli stunned the crowds when he made 32 runs from 11 deliveries to take India to an incredible win. There were certainly no suprises when Virat Kholi was announced as the Player of the Match.
MS Dhoni commented on the match: “I think it was a touch score. We bowled well outside the Powerplay. It’s not the first time I’ve enjoyed watching Virat bat. He’s evolving as a cricketer. He has kept improving and is hungry to score runs for the team. The rest of the batsmen need to step up.”
Dhoni further noted that Hardik and Yuvraj bowled well, and that the team did well throughout the game.
Steve Smith, from the Australia team had thought his team was on track for a win. He seemed somewhat shell shocked when he said: “You can see an innings like that and one guy taking the game away from a team, which I don’t think you have the luxury of doing in the longer formats of the game. It was a pretty serious innings from Virat Kohli to take that game away from us tonight.”
Australia’s Shane Watson had been hoping for a win in what was his last international game. Watson’s final international innings ended with 18 not out.
