India has named the players who will be participating in the Twenty20 International series against the West Indies later this month. The two-match series will take place on 27th and 28th August 2016 in the USA. The matches will take place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in the Central Broward Regional Park.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be the captain of the T20I team. Other top cricketers who will be playing in the 14-member squad will be Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Amit Mishra, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Stuart Binny.
Apart from MS Dhoni, few of the players who had played in last year’s T20I in Zimbabwe have been included in the upcoming series against the West Indies. KL Rahul is currently playing in the Test against the West Indies, and will be playing in the T20I in the USA. He had made his T20I debut in June last year in Zimbabwe. Stuart Binny and Amit Mishra had both also played in the Zimbabwe Test series last year.
Notable players that have been excluded from the series are Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Suresh Raina. These three players, however, will be participating in the Duleep Trophy tournament around the same time. Yuvraj Singh has been chosen as captain for the India Red team, and Suresh Raina has been chosen as captain for the India Green team.
The domestic Duleep Trophy tournament will be played under lights with pink balls between 23rd and 14th September. The tournament will take placein Uttar Pradesh at the Greater Noida International Cricket Stadium. When picking the T20I squad, the needs of the Duleep Trophy were taken into account.
Jasprit Bumrah will be traveling with the international team to the USA, however, he had also been named to the India Green team in the Duleep Trophy. Bumrah may miss the first few days of the Duleep Trophy.
