The Kolkata Knight Riders have managed to maintain their top position in the points table at the end of Match 32 of the 10th IPL. The team has just beaten the Delhi Daredevils by seven wickets with 22 balls to spare. The Kolkata Knight Riders also beat the Delhi Daredevils in the first leg of the 2017 Indian Premier League by four wickets on 17th April.
Gautam Gambhir, the 35-year-old skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders, made his 35th half century during the match in Eden Gardens. Gambhir is the leader in half centuries in the Twenty20 tournament format. Gambhir currently wears the Orange Cap with his total of 376 runs.
At this time, the Kolkata Knight Riders have seven wins and two defeats. After the match, Gambhir commented on the team’s top position in the points table.
“We still have a long way to go,” said Gambhir. “Most boxes ticked but we can’t be complacent. Once you lose momentum, it’s difficult to get it back. But very professional performance today, to restrict them to 160 after the start they got. At one stage I was tempted to bat first but we have been chasing really well so stuck to that. Every player we pick, we pick with a lot of trust, and if you show trust they repay it. We can put some more effort in our fielding, save 10 or 15 runs, will be easier to chase it down.”
The Kolkata Knight Riders are at the top of the points table with 14 points. Following closely behind is Mumbai Indians with 12. Sunrisers Hyderabad have nine points, and Rising Pune Supergiant have eight points. Both Kings XI Punjab and Gujarat Lions have six points, followed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore with five, and the Delhi Daredevils with four points.
