In December, the Mumbai Indians appointed Ricky Ponting as their head coach. The former Australian cricket captain will be taking the team to the eighth season of the IPL. Ponting has a history with the Mumbai Indians as both a captain and a player in IPL 6.
In addition to the new head coach, the team has now hired Shane Bond as the bowling coach for the team. Bond is a former fast bowler from New Zealand. The 39-year-old cricketer holds a similar position for the New Zealand Cricket team at this time.
Shane Bond played in the 2010 IPL season, and is looking forward to the upcoming premier league in his role as bowling coach for the Mumbai Indians.
Bond said: “It’s my privilege to be associated with the most highly regarded franchise in IPL. I look forward to bring in my cricketing experience to work along with Ricky and the team.”
In addition to Ponting and Bond, there are a number of other top cricketers that are coaching the Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2015 IPL season. Jonty Rhodes is the fielding coach, and Robin Singh is the batting coach.
The Mumbai Indians coach for the sixth and seventh IPL seasons, John Wright, is now scouting talent for the team. He is establishing a youth development organization in the hopes that it will ultimately feed players to the team.
Anil Kumble has joined the Owners Group and will be dealing with the Vision for Reliance Sports. The Vision for Reliance Sports is connected to a number of sports other than cricket, such as football and basketball.
Kumble expressed delight that Ricky Ponting is back with the team, and noted that the team is looking forward to his expertise and his IPL experience
