Player Changes in Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata_Knight_Riders_LogoThe Kolkata Knight Riders won last year’s IPL 2014, and are hoping for another win this year. After the team was set, there have been some changes that the Kolkata Knight Riders have had to make. The team is happy to welcome two new players, Johan Botha from South Africa, and Azhar Mahmood from Pakistan.

Jimmy Neesham was bought at the IPL auction this year, and Chris Lynn was retained from last year’s team. Both players will be unable to play because of injuries. The Kolkata Knight Riders recently received the injury reports from the boards of each of these players.

Although there is a chance that the players may be able to play at a later time during the season, the decision has been made to switch the injured players out for other players. When a player is unavailable for a whole season, the Indian Premier League’s rules allow the players to be switched out. If a player is available for part of the season, the players cannot switch in the middle.

Because of the IPL’s regulations, the Kolkata Knight Riders made the decision to replace the two injured players. Johan Botha has been the South African Captain, and has played for the Adelaide Strikers. Azhar Mahmood comes from Pakistan. Mahmood is currently playing Test Cricket for Surrey in England. The two players bring with them much experience, and are expected to be a good addition to the team.

The Kolkata Knight Riders is owned by Red Chillies Entertainment in partnership with the Mehta Group. Red Chillies Entertainment is owned by Shah Rukh Khan, the famous Bollywood actor. Juhi Chawla, and her husband Jay Mehta are from the Mehta Group.

The Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL in 2012 and in 2014. The team was founded in 2008, and has its home ground at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
