Pragyan Ojha, who turned 30 on Monday, sustained a freak injury during a Duleep Trophy match. India’s spin bowler was in the right place at the wrong time when the ball bounced up from the uneven surface.
Pankaj Singh had hit a ball along the ground. Ojha was in the right position to field the ball but the ball flew up unexpectedly when it hit an uneven part of the field just in front of him. He was hit on the left side of his head.
Slow motion footage showed the ball jump up from the filed, Ojha turning his head away from it, and being hit on the head, after which the veteran cricket player fell down. He was taken off the field on a stretcher. Ojha was taken to the hospital in Greater Noida, accompanied by WV Raman, the India Green coach.
Ojha is currently stable, and although there are few details, it has been said that he is doing well. The photograph that was tweeted by the Board of Control of Cricket in India showed Ojha sitting up, smiling, and giving thumbs up. He was still wearing a neck brace, and will continue to be monitored at this time. Other than the photograph with a BCCI comment that “His health will be monitored,” there has been no official comment on the state of Ojha’s health.
Pragyan Ojha has played 24 Tests for India, and was playing with the India Green team in the Duleep Trophy when the freak accident happened. He had just completed his 17th over, and had taken his third wicket just ahead of the injury.
Ojha was born on 5th September 1986. He began his cricket career on 18th March 2005. His is a left-handed bowler, and currently played on the Indian national team.
