Ravi Shastri has applied for the post at the Chief Coach of the Indian cricket team. As the former Team India Director, Shastri is hoping to return to the team.Shastri was the team’s director for an 18-month period, which ended when the ICC World T20 was completed.
The former India Captain was asked whether he had applied for the post earlier this week. His response was straight forward, noting: “Yes, I have applied for the Chief Coach’s post today [Monday] morning. I have emailed all the requisite documents that were asked for in the advertisement.”
He was further asked if the had prepared any kind of presentation to support his application, and he made it clear that whatever he had been required to send as part of his application to the Board of Control for Cricket in India, he had sent.
“If you ask me whether I am confident or not, all I can say is that my job was to apply for the post and I have done that. I cannot comment on anything else,” said Shastri.
During the 18 months that Shastri filled the role as Team Director, the Indian cricket team had a number of important achievements. The notable events included India beating Australia with 3 – 0 in the T20 format. The team won a One Day International series in England, and won a Test series against South Africa at home. India also beat Sri Lanka in an away Test series for the first time in 22 years. India also achieved a semi-final finish in the 50-over World Cup and the T20 World Cup.
With Shastri being one of the biggest names to have applied for the Chief Coach position, another notable application has been made by Sandeep Patil. Patil is both a former coach and the current Chairman of Selectors.
