With credit due to South African player, AB de Villiers, and skipper, Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have had a record-breaking win over the Gujarat Lions. RCB ended the match 144 runs ahead of the Lions at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
RCB began by batting, and had a slot start with 10 runs in three overs, during which time Chris Gayle lost his wicket. When AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli came to bat, the game took an upward turn. The two top batsmen reached a 229 run partnership. The partnership broke the record for the biggest ever partnership in T20 cricket.
Kohli had already begun to bat with 12 runs from 10 balls when De Villiers came to bat in the fourth over. Kohli took a bit longer to get into the swing of things although he was steadily adding runs to his total. He picked up the pace towards the end and got his third century of the season with 109 from 55 balls.
De Villiers started out strong and remained so throughout. He scored 129 runs from 52 balls, hitting 12 sixes and 10 fours to help him reach this outstanding total. De Villiers was the Man of the Match.
The last five overs of the game saw RCB add 112 runs to their total, ending with 248-3. The total was the second biggest IPL total. The Gujarat Lions simply could not reach anywhere near the RCB total, and were bowled out in 18.4 overs with a total of 104.
In addition to the run partnership between Kohli and De Villiers being the biggest ever in T20 cricket, there were a few other records reached during this match.

- 20 Sixes – most sixes hit in an IPL innings.
