The Australian cricket all rounder, Shane Watson, has been singed on by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League 2016 player auction.
Watson was signed for an amount of Rs 9.5 crore, the equivalent of about $1.98 million. The bidding reached nearly four time his reserve price. Although Watson is coming to the end of his international cricket career, he is still particularly sought after for Twenty20 matches.
Although Yuvraj Singh still holds the highest record for a bid at the IPL player auction, Shane Warne holds the record for the Australian who received the highest big, at an amount of $2.01 million in 2011 by the Rajasthan Royals. Watson came in at a very close second to the highest bids for Australian cricketers.
After having been selected for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Watson tweeted: “Incredibly excited to join such a great franchise. Looking forward to joining up with my new teammates in April.”
Along with Shane Watson from Australia, other players that were bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the auction include Stuart Binny, Travis Head, Iqbal Abdulla, Praven Dubey, Sachin Baby, Kane Richardson, Akshay Karenwar, V Malik Samuel Badree, and Vikas Tokas.
Players that have been retained for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team for IPL 2016 are the skipper, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and David Wiese from South Africa, Chris Gayle from the West Indies, Adam Milne from New Zealand, Mitchell Starc from Australia, Abu Nechim, Kedar Jadhav, Harshal Patel, Sarfaraz Khan, Mandeep Singh, Varun Aaron, Sreenath Aravind, and Yuzvendra Chahal.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore will be coached by Dan Vettori. The team has nine overseas players out of the current 25. RCB still has Rs6,17,50,000 left in its budget for players.
