Test Players May Arrive Early in South Africa

The Indian cricket tour of South Africa is coming soon, and the BCCI has announced that it is hoping to send some players earlier than originally scheduled. The reason for this is that it will be better for the players to be there for additional time in order to aid with acclimatisation of the players. While it is clear that all the players cannot go earlier than expected for logistical reasons, it is hoped that Test specialist Zaheer Khan will be able to go earlier along with some other Test specialists.

Sanjay Patel, the BCCI secretary explained: “We are trying to send not only Zaheer but all others in the Test squad too who are not part of the ODS team early to South Africa. The issue is logistics over the number of available hotel rooms.”

Nitin Dalal, the Mumbai Cricket Association’s secretary has mentioned that Zaheer will move up his departure date, making it clear that he will not be available to play in the league games for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. It was announced that Zaheer would leave a day or two later than the ODI squad.

The One Day International squad will now be leaving tonight, 1st December. The ODI series begins on 5th December and continues until 11th December. The squad for the One Day International includes limited over specialists, namely Mohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh, Amit Mishra, and Suresh Raina amongst others. The ODI squad has 16 players.

The two-Test series begins a bit later, and will take place between the 18th December until the 30th December. The Test team comprises of 17 players.

The upcoming ODI’s and Test matches between India and South Africa are expected to be entertaining and top quality cricket playing.
