The World Poker Tour and Adda52.com, a large Indian online poker site, have reached a brand licensing agreement. The terms of the agreement will include exclusive product licensing, along with other services. In addition to this, players from the Indian online poker site are likely to qualify to play in a number of World Poker Tour events that take place throughout the year.
Adda52.com has approximately 800,000 signed-up users. The online poker site now has the rights to create World Poker Tour merchandise, to distribute some of the WPT seasons, and can also make use of the well-known WPT brand in order to form sponsorship partnerships in India.
The WPT President and Chief Executive Officer, Adam Pliska, commented on the new deal with India: “We are proud to partner with Adda52.com, India’s premier poker platform, and to expand the World Poker Tour’s global footprint into one of the fastest growing markets worldwide.”
Pliska further noted: “Alongside Adda52.com, the World Poker Tour is uniquely positioned to bring the WPT experience to millions of fans and players in India and help grow the mind sport of poker throughout the country.”
Adda52.com hosted the first guaranteed poker tournament in India with a guaranteed Rs 10 million. The online poker site’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Anuj Gupta, spoke about the importance of the WPT agreement, and explained how the timing could not be better for India’s online poker industry.
Gupta said: “The association with the World Poker Tour comes at a very crucial time in India. There is a poker boom and the Indian poker community is looking for a better tournament experience. With this tie-up, we want the poker community to be exposed to international standards of poker with better structures, well-defined tournaments, and the knowledge the WPT brings to the table.”
