Another Win for India in New Zealand
After winning the first One Day International in New Zealand, India walked off the pitch with a second victory. The visitors won the toss at the Bay Oval in Mount Mauganui, Tauranga in New Zealand. The team decided to bat first, setting a total of 324/4 in 50 overs.
New Zealand missed their target by 90 runs, with a run total of 234 in 40.2 overs. Although many felt that the Black Caps were likely to fight back hard, the game simply did not go their way.
The Captains Comment
New Zealand’s captain, Kane Williamson, looked somewhat resigned to the loss. He mentioned that the losses are frustrating, and he praised the Indian team for their playing. Williamson felt that there were times when it looked as if his team was about to step up. However, New Zealand simply could not gain the control they needed.
India’s skipper, Virat Kohli, noted that it was “a clinical performance” from his team. The team knew that with one point to zero, they had little to lose, and have now added another point. He noted that the bowlers are doing an excellent job. He said that Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal clearly put their hearts into their bowling to dismiss batsmen.
Rohit Sharma, named Man of the Match, was happy with his effort. He opened with 87 runs.
Third ODI Coming Soon
After the exciting cricket played during India’s Australian tour, viewers were hoping for more of the same in New Zealand. At this point, the series is looking very one-sided with the hosts struggling to make their mark. There is a one-day break after which the third ODI takes place in the same venue.
The third ODI takes place on 28th January 2019.
