Indian Cricket - Sachin TendulkarNot only is Sachin Tendulkar legendary in India, he is respected throughout the cricket world. Cricket Australia’s website had an online poll in which it was voted that Tendulkar is considered the ‘Best Test Player’ for the 21st century.

Tendulkar, the 42-year-old Indian cricketer, headed the list of 100 cricket players that had been selected as the top Test cricket players since the turn of the century. The player with the second highest votes, Kumar Sangakkara, comes from the Sri Lankan team. Australia’s Adam Gilchrist was voted into the third place.

There were 16,000 cricket fans who voted in the survey, 23 percent of which voted for Tendulkar. Sangakkara only received 14 percent of the vote, showing overwhelming support of Tendulkar. While India is certainly featured at the top of the list, there are no other Indian cricketers that were voted into the top 10 Test players. There were two Sri Lankans, three South Africans, and four Australians.

A statement put up on the Cricket Australia website noted: “After 10 days of counting down and no end of deliberations, released its final countdown of the 100 best Test players since 2000 a couple of days ago. Readers debated the top 10, just as you did players 11 thought 100, but we also provided an opportunity for you to decide your No.1 Teest player of the century.”

The statement goes on to note that Tendulkar, who is an iconic figure in the cricket world, simply outshone the rest, and was far and away the winner of the list.

Tendulkar is the only batsman to have hit 100 centuries internationally. He holds the record for being the highest run scorer in both One Day Internationals and in Test matches.

Tendulkar is an excellent example to cricket players around the world, and is looked up to by aspiring young Indian cricketers.
