After two gamblers had been playing cards, a gambling brawl broke out late on Saturday night. The brawl took place between an auto-rickshaw driver and a blacksmith at Azad Chowk near Nigdi Ota scheme.
Sambhaji Dhondiram Kharat, a blacksmith from Dalvinagar, Nigdi Ota, was arrested. He was accused of the murder of the auto-rickshaw driver, Vilas Sheshrao Randive. He allegedly murdered the auto-rickshaw driver on Saturday night and was arrested on Sunday morning in the early hours.
The auto-rickshaw driver, 35-year-old Vilas Sheshrao Randive, who was resident in Rahulnagar, located in the Nigdi Ota scheme had been playing cards with Sambhaji Dhondiram Kharat, along with some other card gamblers. While playing cards, a fight broke out. The fight seemed to have been over how money was meant to be distributed.
Sambhaji Dhondiram Kharat, who is 53 years of age, was both arrested and then accused of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
The police Inspector from the crime department, P N Supekar, explained the situation as follows: “The incident occurred around 11.15 pm on Saturday when Kharat, Randive and some other men were playing cards near Azad Chowk. The two got engaged into an argument over distribution of money they had earned from gambling”
He further noted: “The two started hitting each other. Randive ran away but Kharat chased him and hit him with a stone. Randive was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries later.”
Supekar explained that Kharat was arrested before he could flee the city. Sambhaji Dhondiram Kharat, who is 53 years of age, was both arrested and then accused of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
Inspector P N Supekar said that Kharat was taken to court on Sunday and that he will be in police custody at least until 7th March 2013.
