Bangladesh World Cup Fireworks Will Help Players Increase BPL T20 Value

By Dhanu Delphi on June 18, 2019

Bangladesh moves up to 5th place on the World Cup points table following an impressive win over the West Indies. The victory will also likely boost the T20 value of a number of their Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) players! Meanwhile, cricket bettors can currently pick up Bangladesh at the sportsbooks at World Cup odds of 50 to 1.

No Longer World Cricket Minnows

Bangladesh are no longer considered World Cricket minnows as they got rid of that tag a few years ago. Bangladesh has shown that they have what it takes to beat any team in the shorter formats of the game, and can even cause an upset in test cricket.

So, it wasn’t a massive surprise to see Bangladesh defeat the West Indies and move up to 5th on the points table. What did surprise many was the fact that Bangladesh was able to chase down a massive total of 322 in just 41.3 overs. That was due to some fantastic batting and some power hitting that will most certainly enhance the value of a select number of Bangladeshi players when the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) starts in 2020.

Bangladesh Bowlers Fight Back

Before the match could start, Bangladesh were in 8th place on the points table. They subsequently knew that they had to win against the West Indies in order to keep their World Cup hopes alive. Bangladesh won the toss and asked the West Indies to bat. They then would have been thrilled to dismiss the dangerous Chris Gayle for 0.

However, E Lewis (70) and S Hope (96) then put together a great partnership that provided the West Indies a platform to go berserk. Nevertheless, Shakib Al Hasan got rid of Lewis and would also go on to get rid of the dangerous N Pooran (25).

Next, S Hetmyer scored 50 of just 26 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes and looked like he was going to take West Indies to a score well past 350. Mustafizur Rahman worked his magic, though, and got rid of Hetmyer. The Fizz has shown in T20 cricket that he can be very hard to read and score off. He went on to claim the wicket of the dangerous Andre Russell and helped Bangladesh restrict the West Indies to 321. Mustafizur Rahman finished with 3 wickets.

So did Mohammad Saifuddin, who was a little expensive. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan finished with two wickets, but his biggest contribution would come later with the bat.

Shakib Al Hasan Leads The Charge

Chasing down a total in excess of 300 at the World Cup is always going to be difficult. However, Bangladesh believed in themselves and had a decent start. Soumya Sarkar got out for just 29, but he gave the innings momentum scoring 2 fours and 2 sixes.

Bangladesh head coach Steve Rhodes has claimed that Shakib Al Hasan is the best all-rounder in the world right now. Hasan has since responded well to those praises. He once again came into bat at number 3 and scored his second century at this World Cup. Hasan remained unbeaten on 124, hitting 16 fours in the process. He received great support from Liton Das, who was also unbeaten on 94. Das hit 8 fours and 4 sixes in his innings at a strike rate of 136.

The West Indies bowlers had no answers and their one dimensional bowling attack hurt them in the end. They have now slipped to 7th place on the points table. Needless to say, their chances of making it to the final four will be very hard.

Bangladesh Premier League T20 Prices Will Go Up

Shakib Al Hasan has been the star for Bangladesh at this World Cup. There is no doubt that his market value will skyrocket as a result. The performances of Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar will also help boost their value at the 2020 Bangladesh Premier League.

The batsmen stole the show for Bangladesh against the Windies at World Cup 2019. However, credit must also be given to the bowlers, who stemmed the flow of runs and helped restrict the West Indies to below 350. The Fizz has once again shown that he is a great death bowler. T20 leagues around the world will no doubt be eager to sign him once again!
