New Zealand Rejoice After Pulling Off Astounding Win Over India

By Dhanu Delphi on July 10, 2019

Cricket bettors who put money on the Black Caps are currently overjoyed. That’s because New Zealand surprised the sportsbooks yesterday after pulling of an astounding victory over India in the World Cup semi-finals. The Kiwis had betting odds of 4.55 to India’s 1.19 going into Day 2 of the semi-finals. However, they put pressure on India who fell short by 18 runs.

Williamson And Taylor’s Experience Pays Off

The Black Caps won the toss on 09 July and decided to bat first. The Kiwis found themselves in trouble quickly and once again captain Kane Williams had to play the rescue act. He received good support from the experienced Ross Taylor as the two looked to rebuild the innings.

Their batting frustrated Kiwi fans as both batsmen failed to rotate the strike, struggled to find the boundaries and slowed the pace of the game down. The Kiwis ended up blocked over 150 deliveries in their innings which is the equivalent of 25 overs. When Williamson got out he had 67 of 95 balls and Taylor who got out in the 47th over had 74 of 90 deliveries.

New Zealand could not finish their innings on 9th July as rain interrupted play and forced the match into the reserve day. The Kiwis could only manage to get to 239 in their 50 overs. They subsequently knew that they would have to bowl and field exceptionally well if they were going to beat India.

M Henry And T Boult Stand Up

India rely heavily on their top order to get the runs for them. M Henry who has been a bit expensive throughout the World Cup bowled a great spell upfront. Incredibly, he dismissed both the openers for a combined total of 2. T Boult got the big wicket of V Kohli who was dismissed for 1 and the Kiwis were immediately on top.

The Kiwis have a lot of depth in their bowling attack and it played a big role in building the pressure. In fact, they never allowed the Indian batsmen to settle. L Ferguson who has bowled phenomenally for the Kiwis, bowled a tight line and length. Meanwhile, M Santner frustrated R Pant and got his wicket.

India launched a fight back with R Jadeja and MS Dhoni. Nevertheless, Kane Williamson once again called on M Henry and T Boult to bowl the death overs and they delivered yet again. Boult got the wicket of R Jadeja and then the only danger to the Kiwis was MS Dhoni.

Kane Williamson – Brilliant Tactically

Kane Williamson has been fantastic with the bat throughout the tournament. He has also been brilliant with the captaincy. Williamson showed enormous composure, was brilliant with his field placing and rotated his bowlers well.

If New Zealand had to panic when R Jadeja and MS Dhoni were launching a fightback, it could have been over for the Kiwis. Williamson set the standard and his team followed by example.

M Guptill, who is one of the best fielders in the world, pulled of a brilliant run-out that got rid of MS Dhoni. Guptill hasn’t delivered for New Zealand with the bat. Nevertheless, that run-out is something he will not forget for the rest of his life.

Black Caps Make Second Consecutive WC Semi-Final

The Kiwis were delighted to win their semi-final and make it to another World Cup final. For those who don’t remember, The Black Caps pulled of a nail biter during the semi-final of the 2015 World Cup when they played South Africa. They met with disappointment during the final as they lost to Australia.

They now have another shot at winning their first ICC World Cup on June 14. New Zealand will play the winner of Australia (2.10) vs. England (2.10) who face each other in the second semi-final on 11 July.
