Chennai Super Kings Celebrate After Comfortable Victory Over Delhi

By Dhanu Delphi on March 28, 2019

The Chennai Super Kings won the fifth Indian Premier League 2019 match, beating the Delhi Capitals by six wickets. After the Delhi Capitals won the toss at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi, they decided to bat first.

Chennai Super Kings restricted the Delhi Capitals to a score of 147/6 with the help of bowler Dwayne Bravo. This gave CSK an easy target to chase down. The team ended with 150/4 in 19.4 overs, winning the match by six wickets with two balls left.

Delhi Capitals Started Out Strong

Delhi Capitals opened with ‘Prithvi Shaw, who made 24 runs, and Shikhar Dhawan, who made a half century with 51 runs. Furthermore, Dhawan reached his 51-run total in 47 balls, having secured the half century in 45 balls.

Although the team started out strong, Shreyas Iyer, out on an LBW, made only 18 runs. Following on was Rishabh Pant with only 25 runs. After this, it did not take long before the team ended on a somewhat low run total. CSK’s Dwayne Bravo took a three-wicket haul, picking off Pant, Dhawan, and Ingram. The hosts subsequently lost three wickets in five runs, which simply took the wind out of their sails.

Man of the Match to CSK’s Shane Watson

Once the Chennai Super Kings were up to bat, Shane Watson opened with a 44 run knock in 26 balls. The entertaining knock included three sixes and four fours. Watson received the Man of the Match award for his outstanding batting. Suresh Raina added 30 runs to the team’s total, and Kedar Jadhav added 27 runs. MS Dhoni, the team’s skipper, added 32 runs to the total, not out.

MS Dhoni played with his own special fan club cheering him on. Dhoni’s wife, Sakshi Dhoni attends most of his matches with the couple’s daughter Ziva. Ziva appears to be MS Dhoni’s biggest fan as she stands up and cheers “Paaaapaaaaaa, come on Papa!”

Reasons to Celebrate – Happy Birthday, Kedar Jadhav!

Winning the match is a good reason to celebrate. But the party continued after the match for Kedar Jadhav’s birthday. Jadhav, who turned 34, received a cake shower in the changing room. There were plenty of smiles, and much fun for the birthday celebration, and for winning the match.

Jadhav may not have enjoyed wearing his birthday cake as much as his teammates enjoyed it. He did, however, get into the spirit of the birthday fun, and posed for photographs with team members.

Chennai Super Kings Top the Points Table

With two wins out of two, the Chennai Super Kings sit at the top of the points table. While the 2019 IPL is still near the beginning, this is a good start for the defending champions.

Chennai Super Kings have a short break before their next match on Sunday 31st March 2019. The team will play against the Rajasthan Royals at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Chennai Super Kings then play against the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday 3rd April 2019. The match takes place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
