The Indian cricket team has been compared to the All Blacks rugby team. The comparison was made by Nic Pothas, the Sri Lankan coach. He was referring to India’s clean sweep on their tour in Sri Lanka, which he compared to the top quality All Blacks rugby team from New Zealand.
Praise for Indian Cricket Team
India began by winning all three Test series matches. The team went on to win all five One Day Internationals, after which India won the single T20 match against Sri Lanka.
Pothas had the following to say: “You look at their team and they are very All Black-like. There’s a lot of respect for the facilities and there’s a lot of respect for the opposition. They are very ruthless in the way they go about their work.”
He further noted: “Their work ethic is immense. They are what a lot of teams aspire to be. The most important thing for us is learning from our mistakes, but most importantly: learning from them.”
Virat Kohli Included in Pothas’ Praise
Pothas also commended Virat Kohli, the Indian team’s skipper. He pointed out the respect that the cricket captain commands when he is running between wickets on the field.
“He’s a role model to people and he pulls people with him,” said Pothas.
“When you look at the way they go about their work and the culture that Virat has created within the team, it’s very, very impressive.”
While Pothas spent a fair amount of time praising the opposing Indian team, he also noted that his own team has a number of good players. He felt that the Sri Lankan team could learn from the Indian side. He hopes that his team will be able to increase their confidence, which could make them “world-class players.”
Kohli played his 50th Twenty20 match in the final game of the series in Sri Lanka. During the match, Kohli ended with 82 runs.
India and Australia will play five ODIs, and three Twenty20 International games. India will also be playing three ODIs against New Zealand, along with three T20s.
