Australia v India: First ODI Odds and Betting Preview

By Matt Harris on January 10, 2019

At 1-1 in the tests with two games to play, it seemed as though the series between Australia and India would be a competitive one. Nevertheless, the Indians just got stronger as the tour progressed. Currently as 3-1 winners, Virat Kohli’s men naturally have the momentum going into the One Day Series.  So, who do the cricket odds for Australia v India favour?

We remain in Sydney for the first of three ODIs which goes off at the SCG on Saturday. And if you’re taking a Satta, here’s what the bookmakers think.

What are the cricket odds for Australia v India?

Having been outsiders at the start of the test series, there has been a big turnaround and India now start as favourites to win Saturday’s first ODI at 1.61 with Betway. That’s a price that leaves Australia out at 2.20, but is there any hope for the outsiders?

The hosts’ squad is more suited to limited overs cricket rather than the long form. Furthermore, Australia bring in some big players for this series. Aaron Finch captains and with Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Billy Stanlake and Adam Zampa included, this could be a more competitive side that can win one game. Nevertheless, India’s greater strength in depth, plus the momentum carried over from the tests, makes them the obvious pick.

Match Odds Summary: Australia 2.20, India 1.61 (Betway – Editor’s Pick).

What are the top batsman cricket odds for Australia v India?

Starting with the home side, Aaron Finch is favourite to score most Australian runs. You can back the skipper at odds of 4.33. Shaun Marsh follows at 4.50 and then we have Usman Khawaja at 5.00.

There will be some interest in Glenn Maxwell and Peter Handscomb, both at 6.00. Meanwhile, Marcus Stoinis provides some late order value at 6.65 with Betrally.

Moving across to India and after another productive test series, Virat Kohli is the favourite to score most runs for his side at 3.35. Rohit Sharma is next at 3.95 while Shikhar Dhawan is at 4.85.

After a poor test series, KL Rahul has a chance to shine for India in the One Day arena. Rahul can be picked up at 6.00. However, there are other options for the visitors. These include Dinesh Karthik at 9.00, MS Dhoni at 12.75, and Hardik Pandya at 13.00.

There are certainly some generous prices on both sides. But while Kohli is often an obvious pick for India, we’re opting for Rohit Sharma for this first game. After all, he’s given us some good profits in the past. Furthermore, the new Dad should be rested, refreshed and ready for a prolific series.

Top Batsman Odds Summary: Australia: Finch 4.33, Shaun Marsh 4.50, Khawaja 5.00, Maxwell 6.00, Hanscomb 6.00, Stoinis 6.65.

India: Kohli 3.35, Rohit Sharma 3.95 (Betrally – Editor’s Pick), Dhawan 4.85, Rahul 6.00, Karthik 9.00, Dhoni 12.75, Hardik Pandya 13.00.

What are the top bowler cricket odds for Australia v India?

We had some success with this Satta in the recent test series between these two teams so we will finish once again with India’s top bowler market. After a productive spell in the final test, Kuldeep Yadav is an obvious favourite to return best figures at 3.70. Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami is next on the list at 4.15.

Yuzvendra Chahal is interesting as the spinner is short at 3.60 in places. However, Chahal can be found at a generous 4.85. Other options here include Bhuvneshwar Kumar at 4.75, Ravindra Jadeja at 6.00, and Hardik Pandya at 7.00.

We’re backing Chahal to deliver the profit and play an overall part in an Indian win in Sydney. The squad often rotates to rest big name players. With a World Cup looming, however, they are at full strength. Needless to say, that represents bad news for Aaron Finch and his Australian team.

India Top Bowler Odds Summary: Kuldeep Yadav 3.70, Shami 4.15, Kumar 4.75, Chahal 4.85 (Betrally – Editor’s Pick), Jadeja 6.00, Hardik Pandya 7.00.
