The sixth Indian Premier League has begun, with the first game being played between the Delhi Daredevils and the defending champions, the Kolkata Knight Riders. The game took place in Eden Gardens, the home of cricket in India. This game was the first game that will take place out of the 76 scheduled games that are set to take place over the upcoming 54 days.
It is always exciting when these two teams are matched up. In the nine matches that the two teams have played to date, the Kolkata Knight Riders have won five of those matches, with four wins to the Delhi Daredevils. Not only is the number of wins close, the contest between the teams has been somewhat close, and has the fans captivated.
The first game of the IPL 2013 was won by the Kolkata Knight Riders. The game was won by six wickets, and spinner Sunil Narine was instrumental in bowling out the Delhi Daredevils in 20 overs for 128 runs. Sunil Narine was also named Man-of-the-Match. The Kolkata Knight Riders won with 129 – 4 in 18.4 overs.
The game got off to a slot start for the Kolkata Knight Riders, with a first over maiden that was bowled by Irfan Pathan. Ashish Nehra sent Manvinder Bisla, with only four runs, packing. After that, the game started to speed up on the slow Eden Garden pitch. Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata Knight Rider’s captain, was instrumental in helping take the team to victory. In two consecutive deliveries, he smashed a boundary and then hit a six. Gambhir made 47 runs with Jaques Kallis, who made 23.
