England v India cricket odds: 1st ODI betting

You can start getting ready for more India cricket odds. The first of three 50 over matches takes place at Trent Bridge on Thursday, but how do the bookmakers view things in the wake of that Indian triumph?

Rohit Sharma, India vice captain

These two sides produced some thrilling cricket in what proved to be one of the most entertaining T20 series in recent times. India came through with a 2-1 winning scoreline and will now be confident of a repeat success in the ODIs that follow.

What are the England v India cricket odds?

Host side England started that T20 series as favourites and it’s the same scenario again for this first match in Nottingham. Eoin Morgan’s side are available at 1.80 with Betrally, while India are on offer at 2.05.

The 50 over game is seen as English cricket’s strongest suit and the side are back at a Trent Bridge ground where they’ve set two World Record batting totals in the last three seasons. England’s spinners Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid tend to subdue teams in the middle overs, but they are up against a stronger Indian top order and they may not be able to bowl with as much freedom this time. Overall, we think the ODI series will follow a similar pattern to the T20s and with another 2-1 result possible, we’ll take India for the opening win.

Match Odds Summary: England 1.80, India 2.05 (Editor’s Pick).

What are the Top Batsman Options for England v India cricket odds?

It will be interesting to see if England open with Jos Buttler in the one-dayers or maybe they’ll drop him down the order after a quiet end to the T20 matches. Buttler has now eased to odds of 5.50 with Betway to score most English runs on Thursday, so the bookies suspect he will drop down into the middle order.

Jonny Bairstow is the new favourite here at 4.33, while Joe Root is on offer at 4.50 with Betrally. Meanwhile, Alex Hales and Jason Roy look very generous here at the same odds at 6.00 after both men found their touch in the T20s.

Elsewhere, Eoin Morgan is quoted at 7.00 and Ben Stokes at 9.50.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli each gave us a profit in that T20 series and both are therefore in good form coming into the ODIs. For this first game in Nottingham, Kohli starts as a short favourite at 3.20, while Rohit is some way behind at 4.75.

Shikhar Dhawan struggled in the T20s, but will tempt punters at a generous 5.00, while KL Rahul, who scored that brilliant hundred at Old Trafford, can be picked up at 5.50.

Other in-form batters who could give you value in the middle overs include Hardik Pandya at 12.00 and MS Dhoni at a superb 12.50.

There are some really good prices there and we would seriously consider taking a smaller stake on Dhoni and on Jason Roy but for an overall tip, we expect Virat Kohli to maintain that form and make a big score in batsman-friendly conditions. His own price of 3.20 isn’t great, but backing the skipper was our first reaction and it’s not good to change your mind.

Top Batsman Odds Summary: England: Bairstow 4.33, Root 4.50, Buttler 5.50, Roy 6.00, Hales 6.00, Morgan 7.00, Stokes 9.50.

India: Kohli 3.20 (Editor’s Pick), Rohit 4.75, Dhawan 5.00, Rahul 5.50, Hardik Pandya 12.00, Dhoni 12.50.

What are the Century Options for England v India cricket odds?

We’ve gone for the outsiders to win the game so we’ll finish this preview with another favourite. Betrally have odds of 1.57 on any batsman from either side to score a century and we think that this could be the safest bet of the match.

Rohit and Rahul both made tons in the T20 series while Hales, Roy, Bairstow and Buttler were all in great one day form in the ODIs with Australia. India’s prolific scorers should see the away side win the game but there are several players among the overall 22 that can give you the profit in this market.

Any Player to Score a Century in Match Odds Summary: Yes 1.57 (Editor’s Pick), No 2.37.
