After an historic win by India in the India-England Test series, India is planning for another win in the third Test that begins on Sunday. It had been many years since an Indian cricket team had won a Test match at Lord’s, the famous English cricket grounds, and India did it in style by beating the home team by 95 runs.
This Test win was the first away Test win that India has achieved in their last 16 Tests. It was the India cricket team’s first win at Lord’s since as long ago as 1986. Not only did India do well with runs, Ishant Sharma bowled excellently, taking 7 – 74 with a period of fast bowling. These were the best bowling figured that an Indian bowler has achieved in England.
The Indian team captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, said: “This is a result of hard effort, and it was fantastic to see the determination the guys showed.”
Dhoni also noted that since this was probably his last time at Lord’s that it was definitely a memorable match.
Sachin Tendulkar, the Indian cricket legend, had the following to say regarding the second Test match: “Winning Tests in England is very special. What really stood out for me from this match was the number of performers we had across all five days.”
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated his country’s national cricket team for their excellent win. Modi wrote on Twitter: “Well played Team India! Congrats on the wonderful victory at Lord’s. We are very delighted & proud of the great performance.”
After the first Test of the series ended in a draw, India has taken the lead by 1 – 0 after winning the second five-day Test match. The third Test of this series will be played in Southampton, and India is hoping for yet another victory.
