India has won the One Day International series on its tour of South Africa. In the earlier Test series, South Africa won the first two Tests, with India playing an excellent third Test. The team continued its excellent playing into the ODI series.
India beat the Proteas by 73 runs in the fifth ODI, at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth today. South Africa were dismissed with all out and 201 runs in 42.2 overs.
The first three ODIs were taken by India. South Africa still had a chance to win the next three ODIs and equalize the series. South Africa did win the fourth ODI on their day in pink. India has gone on to win the fifth match, giving themselves a win with four out of six games. The team plans to win the sixth game too.
Whether India win the final ODI or not, the team will hold the number one spot in the ICC ODI rankings.
Series Filled with Record Breaking
- With this win, India won its first ODI in Port Elizabeth. The team has lost games in Port Elizabeth to South Africa in 1992, 1997, 2006, and 2011, and to Kenya in 2001.
- This win brings India to its first ever One Day International series win against South Africa in South Africa.
- Virat Kohli is the first skipper to have his team win nine ODI series in a row.
- Rohit Sharma scored his 17th ODI century, helping to take India to its total of 274. Rohit had been having a rough time in the earlier four ODIs, but he was clearly back on form. His run total of 115 included four sixes, and 11 fours.
The final ODI of the series is set to take place on 18th February 2018. The match will take place at Supersport Park in Centurion.
