The Indian cricket team have beaten the South Africans at The Oval. India won by eight wickets with a score of 193-2 in 38 overs. South Africa ended on 191 in 44.3 overs. The win has taken India through to the semifinals.
The Indian team took seven wickets from the South African team in just 51 runs. The Indian team crushed the current world number ones, who have been eliminated from the tournament after three run-outs and the quick loss of wickets.
India’s Shikar Dhawan made a total of 78 runs while Virat Kohli made a total of 76 runs not out. The victory was huge, with India attaining the target run total, and therefore winning the match, with 12 overs to spare. Rohit Sharma was the opening batsman with 12 runs. Yuvraj Singh was the number four, and ended with 23 runs not out.
In order to reach the semifinals, India beat Pakistan on Sunday, 4th June. The Indian team was beaten by Sri Lanka on Thursday, 8th June. The 8-wicket win against South Africa gave India enough wins to go through to the next stage.
India joins England and Bangladesh in the final four. On Monday, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will play against each other. The winner of the Pakistan – Sri Lanka match will be the final team in the top four.
India has reached the semifinals as the Group B leaders. While it is possible that Pakistan or Sri Lanka could beat India’s net run rate and become the Group B leaders, it is not likely. If there are no dramatic changes, India will meet Bangladesh in their semifinal match on Thursday, 15th June, at Edgbaston in Birmingham. England will be playing their semifinal match on Wednesday, 14th June, at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
The final match is set to take place at the Kennington Oval in London on Sunday, 18th June 2017.
