India Level T20 Series After Rohit Sharma Plays A Match Winning Knock

By Dhanu Delphi on November 8, 2019

There were reports leading into the second T20 cricket match between India and Bangladesh that it would be cancelled due to the threat of a cyclone that would shower Rajkot with a lot of rain. That never happened and the fans at the Rajkot Stadium were able to see a full match, which India, captained by Rohit Sharma, went on to win comfortably as the betting favourites.

Bangladesh surprised India in the first T20 match and put them under pressure. India needed to win the second T20 to keep the three-match series alive. That is exactly what they did, thanks to a brilliant knock by Sharma.

Bangladesh Struggle To Get Going

India won the toss and sent Bangladesh in to bat and they got off to a pretty solid start. However, things started to go wrong for them once Liton Das was run out. The Indian bowlers took control of the situation and started to chip away at the wickets, making sure Bangladesh was not able to string together any partnerships.

Deepak Chahar bowled a good spell and restricted the batsmen from scoring. However, it was Yuzvendra Chahal who picked up the two crucial wickets of Soumya Sarkar (30) and Mushfiqur Rahim (4). That put pressure on the rest of the lower order. Washington Sundar sent down yet another economical spell, conceding just 25 runs of his 4 overs.

Khaleel Ahmed was the one bowler who struggled yet again. He gave away 44 runs in his 4 overs. Bangladesh managed to get to 153 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. They will rue the fact that they did not take a little more risks to get a few more runs.

Rohit Sharma’s Innings Seals Victory For India

India had not trouble chasing down the modest total as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan put together a hundred-run partnership that took the game away from Bangladesh. The Indian captain looked in fine touch and had no problem finding the boundary. Dhawan did not play as freely as he would have liked and was bowled for 31.

Sharma hit 6 fours and 6 sixes in his knock of 85 and finished with a strike rate of 197. Sharma missed out on scoring yet another T20 century, but he will be happy with the result. Shreyas Iyer once again came out and stamped his authority on the game scoring 24 of 13 balls, hitting 3 fours and 1 six to take India home.

Rohit Sharma received the Man of the Match award for his brilliant knock. He admitted during the post-match interview that he was a bit emotional after losing the first T20. He praised Y Chahal and Sundar for bowling well under pressure, while at the same time, expressing is unhappiness over the way the team fielded.

Third T20 Turns Into A Final

The third and final T20 game will take place on 10 November in Nagpur. It will be a must-win game for both teams to win the series. India retained the same side for both the first and second T20 games. They could very well go in with the same team for the Nagpur game. If at all they do decide to make a change, it will most likely be Shardul Thakur coming in for Ahmed.

Bangladesh know they did not play as well as they could have during the second T20. They would love to win the toss and bat first in Nagpur. They know their two keys to victory are to get a total above 160 on the board and then get Rohit Sharma out early. India will go in as the favourites to win the third T20 as they are playing at home and have a stronger side on paper!
