After a tense and interesting three-match Test series, India and South Africa are about to embark on the ODI series. There are six One Day International matches starting on 1st February, with the final ODI taking place on 16th February.
The ODIs will be followed by the three-match Twenty20 International series. The South African team has now named its squad for the T20Is.
Raina and Unadkat Join T20I 16-Man Squad
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named its T20I squad for the upcoming series in South Africa.
The BCCI issued a statement noting: “The All-India Senior Selection Committee has picked the squad for the three-match T20I series against South Africa. The T20I series will be played after the completion of the ODI series.”
Most notable in the squad is Suresh Raina. He had last played for India in February last year. Raina had been hoping to secure a spot on the T20I team. He has recently shown good form and consistency in his game, having spent some time at the National Cricket Academy. Raina also recently made a century off of 49 balls in the Syed Mustaq Ali T20 cricket tournament.
Jaydev Unadkat is also an unsurprising choice for the T20I squad. He played well against Sri Lanka in their recent tour, taking home the Man of the Series award.
Unadkat was sold for a high bid in the recent IPL auction. He was bought for Rs 11.5 crore for the Rajasthan Royals team.
Virat Kohli will be the team’s skipper, and he will be assisted by Rohit Sharma who is the vice-captain. MS Dhoni has been named the wicket keeper.
In addition to Jaydev Unadkat and Suresh Raina, the team consists of Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Manish Pandey, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
The three matches will take place on 18th, 21st, and 24th February in Johannesburg, Centurion, and Cape Town respectively.
