India-New Zealand Hockey Series Whitewash

The India cricket tour of England is the main focus for many sports fans at the moment. At the same time that this important cricket tour is underway, Indian hockey players are  playing well at home.

India vs New Zealand Hockey Test

The third, and final, Test match between India men’s and New Zealand men’s hockey teams is over. The India team beat new Zealand with a 4 – 0 victory in the final Test of the series. India has won the series with a whitewash.

India’s Rupinder Pal Singh scored in the 8th minute, and Surendar Kumar in the 15th minute. Mandeep Singh scored in the 44th minute, and Akashdeep Singh made the final goal in the 60th minute. The final goal was scored just as the final hooter was sounded.

Hardendra Singh, the India chief coach, commented on the match in light of the upcoming 18th Asian Games. The Asian Games take place from 18th August to 2nd September in Jakarta.

Singh said: “Playing high intensity matches against one of the top 10 teams in the world ahead of a crucial event like the Asian Games is beneficial to us. During these three matches, we tried out different combinations and variations in penalty corners, and we are now better prepared for the upcoming tournament.”

Hockey Women’s World Cup in England

The Women’s Hockey World Cup began on 21st July and continues until 5th August 2018.

India looked as if it was going to dominate the match, scoring one point earlier in the game. England managed to get a goal towards the end of the game, equalizing the score with the final result tied.

India will play against Ireland on 26th July, and against the United States on 29th July.

The playoffs take place on 30th and 31st July, followed by the quarterfinals on 1st and 2nd August. The semifinals are set 4th August with the final taking place on 5th August.
