The 2018 Asia Cup schedule has been finalized. The One Day International cricket tournament is set to take place between 15th – 28th September 2018.
The opening match of the Asia Cup is set for 15th September between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Pakistan will play the winner of Qualifier 1 on 16th September. The Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan match is set for 17th September, and India will play against the Group A Qualifier 1 on 18th September. India and Pakistan, both in Group A, will play each other on 19th September. Bangladesh will meet Afghanistan on 20th September.
India and arch-rival Pakistan will play their match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The top two teams from each Group play in the Super 4 part of the ODI tournament. The top two teams progress to the Final. This year is the 14th edition of the Asian Cup. It is the third time that the cricket tournament is taking place in the United Arab Emirates.
The 2018 Asia Cup was originally meant to be hosted in India. Because of the high tension between India and Pakistan, there were some concerns that Pakistan would not be able to play in the tournament. In order to ensure Pakistan’s participation, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, requested that the Asia Cup be hosted in Abu Dhabi instead of India.
Asia Cup Qualifier
The 2018 Asia Cup Qualifier is held in order to determine which cricket team will be the sixth team added to the tournament. The Qualifier takes place in Malaysia between 29th August and 6th September.
Teams taking part in the Qualifier are Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.
There are five rounds in which each team will meet every other team once. Each day, three matches are played in the round robin tournament. The final takes place on 6th September at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Bandar Kinrara.
