India Retains ICC Test Championship Rank

The Indian team may not have won the three-Test series in South Africa, however, their third match win was important. The team had wanted to avoid a whitewash in the series, and had never lost a Test at The Wanderers. While both of these are important reasons for really needing a win, this win means so much more to India.

India Maintains First Place in ICC Test Rankings

Winning the third Test in South Africa means that the Indian cricket team has maintained its ICC Test rankings. The cutoff date is 3rd April, however, with this win, the Indian team will remain at the number one spot.

The Indian cricket team will be awarded $1 million for being the top ranked Test cricket team.

The South African cricket team had hoped to take over the top Test ranking, but can no longer do so. Even if the South African team win all four Tests against Australia in their upcoming Test series, they cannot win.

Virat Kohli Comments

The Indian team’s skipper, Virat Kohli, said: “This is one of our sweetest wins. This day will be remembered for a long time for us as a team. We already had the belief but now we have the result to back that as well.”

Kohli noted that the South African team deserved to win the Test series because they simply played better cricket.

After the third Test, India’s captain made it clear that his team is the best: “We are the number one team in the world, and we certainly played like that today.”

The Top 10

India holds the first place in the ICC Test rankings, with South Africa the next in line.

The top two are then followed by Australia, New Zealand, England, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.
