India – Sri Lanka: 1st Test Ends in a Draw

The first Test match between India and Sri Lanka has ended in a draw. The hosts worked hard to win the Test, but the Sri Lankans were awarded a draw when play had to end early on the fifth day. The bad light meant that game play stopped when the visitors were reduced to a result of 75/7 when chasing after 231.

There were nearly two full days in which play did not take place because of the bad weather conditions. At first, Sri Lanka was doing well, and then the balance tilted in India’s favour. When Kohli came to bat, it certainly looked as if India was going to have an easy win. With this in mind, India chose to declare at 352/8. The score included an excellent century from Virat Kohli.

Fifty International Centuries for Kohli

While the Test may have ended in a draw because of the weather and the fading light, Kohli reached a personal milestone during the Test match.

Kohli made 104 runs off of 119 balls that included two sixes and 12 fours. The second six took him to the century. This was Kohli’s 50th hundred in his international cricket career. It was his 18th Test century.

Man of the Match

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, named the Man of the Match, took eight wickets.

Bhuvi will not, however, be playing in the second Test of the series. He is set to get married on 23rd November, and has therefore been released from the Indian Test squad.

Kiran Pal Singh, Bhuvi’s father, said that because the team cannot attend the wedding, there will be a special reception in Delhi in the first week of December. Both the Indian and Sri Lankan cricket teams are invited to the celebration.

Second Test Coming Soon

The second Test match of the Sri Lanka tour of India begins on 24th November 2017. The Test will take place in Nagpur, after which there will be one more Test of the series.

Vijay Shankar will take Bhuvneshwar’s place in the second Test.
