India may have won the ODI series in Sri Lanka, but there is still more to come. The two teams prepare themselves to meet each other in the fourth match of the series. The upcoming game is important to each team for somewhat different reasons.
MS Dhoni to Play 300th ODI
India leads with 3-0 in the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. The team now has a chance to shake things up a bit, although it still remains to be seen how many changes will be made in the last two ODI games in Sri Lanka. We may see Manish Pandey and Ajinkya Rahane take a more significant role after having been sidelined following injuries. There is also a chance that Kuldeep Yadav will be given the opportunity to bowl.
The game is important to the team because Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be playing his 300th One Day International match. Dhoni, the former Indian captain, has helped the Indian team to their last couple of wins. The team wants to ensure that he has the chance to play his 300th ODI in a winning game.
Sri Lanka Fight for Assured World Cup Spot
The Sri Lankan team will be putting up a fight to win the next two ODIs against India even though they have already lost the series. The series has been dismal for the hosts after losing both the Tests and the ODIs.
If Sri Lanka can step up and win the next two games, they will be given automatic entrance into the next Cricket World Cup in 2019. If they fail to win the fourth and fifth ODIs, they will only qualify automatically if the West Indies team win a maximum of three of their ODIs scheduled to be played against England in September.
The fourth and fifth ODIs will take place on 31st August and 3rd September respectively. There will be a T20 match between the two teams on 6th September.
Australia will be touring India with their first ODI match set to take place on 17th September.
