India Complete T20 West Indies Whitewash As Young Players Shine
Cricket punters placing a bet at the sportsbooks for the India T20 squad to secure a 3-0 whitewash over The Windies will no doubt be celebrating. In addition to the resounding series win, all of India’s young players also contributed majorly to the third T20 victory.
Senior India Players Rested
The India T20 squad rested a couple of their senior players for the 3rd T20 against the West Indies. After all, they had already secured the three-match series by a score of 2-0. Rohit Sharma, who has been in fine form, along with Khaleel Ahmed and Ravindra Jadeja, were left out for the third T20 at Providence. Meanwhile, KL Rahul and the Chahar brothers (Deepak and Rahul Chahar) were drafted into the side.
DL Chahar Wins Man Of The Match Award
India won the toss and elected to bowl first with D Chahar then bowling an outstanding spell. He took the first three wickets, sending back the dangerous Evin Lewis, Sunil Narine and Shimron Hetmyer, who was promoted to number 3. D Chahar would only bowl three overs in the match and conceded just 4 runs. His performance gave India the upper hand and earned him the Man of the Match award.
The West Indies fought back as Kieron Pollard (58) played a good knock. Pollard received support from Rovman Powell, who played well throughout the whole series. The West Indies could only reach 146 in their 20 overs, though. They subsequently knew that they would need to take early wickets to give themselves any chance of winning the game.
R Chahar had a decent game, sending down his 3 overs for 27 runs and taking a wicket in the process. Another youngster doing well in the third T20 was Washington Sundar, who sent down 3 overs for 23 runs. Navdeep Saini put up a good performance, too, finishing his spell of four overs for 34 and taking 2 wickets.
R Pant Comes To The Party
The India T20 squad had a hiccup early on in their innings when the out-of-form Shihkar Dhawan perished early yet again for just 3. KL Rahul (20) made runs in the middle, but once again failed to kick on and build a big score. Virat Kohli (59) steadied the ship as he looked solid at the crease and hit another T20 half century.
What was even more important was that Kohli was at the crease to shepherd young Rishabh Pant, who was under pressure after a string of low scores. Kohli was constantly in Pant’s ear and it paid dividends. Consequently, Pant did not throw his wicket away cheaply and played a match winnings innings that saw hit remain unbeaten on 65 to take India home. Pant’s innings included 4 fours and 4 sixes with a strike rate of 154.
This innings will give Pant a lot of confidence going into the ODI series. It will also please the selectors who have decided to back Pant as the replacement for MS Dhoni.
Selectors Pleased With Young Players in India T20 Squad
The selectors will not only be pleased with the performance of Pant, but all of the young players who were given an opportunity during the T20 series. Kohli has heaped praise on Sundar, who bowled really well and showed good composure. Saini has had a great series, to0. Meanwhile, the Chahar brothers have shown that India does have a good reserve of backup bowlers.
K Pandya – Player Of The Series Award
The player that impressed the most during the T20 series was Krunal Pandya. He has demonstrated that he can be a reliable all-rounder in the shorter format of the game, like his brother Hardik Pandya, who plays all three formats.
K Pandya delivered with both bat and ball when it mattered. He was subsequently rewarded with the Man of the Series award.
