India v South Africa 2nd Test: Cricket Betting Tips

By Dhanu Delphi on October 8, 2019

South Africa battled bravely, but ultimately went down by 203 runs in the first test of this three-game cricket series. A rearguard operation with the bat briefly threatened to draw the game. However, India’s greater all-round depth eventually had the final say. So, now it’s on to the India v South Africa 2nd test.

The teams move on to Pune for the second game, starting on Thursday, and the sportsbooks expect Virat Kohli’s men to claim the win which would close out this series.

What are the cricket odds for India v South Africa 2nd Test?

India’s victory in Visakhapatnam has strengthened their position as favourites to win the second test. The home side can now be backed at odds of 1.44 with Bet365, but the big movers are South Africa, who have now drifted all the way out to 9.00. The draw can be claimed at 4.00 again and, as there is some rain forecast for Pune, this could be a potential Satta.

South Africa showed plenty of fighting spirit to recover from 63/4 to post 431 on first innings. The selectors can consider some changes to bolster a struggling bowling unit, but the batting would remain a concern for us. With Vernon Philander listed to come in at seven, there is no true depth and we expect India to take even greater advantage this time.

Match Odds Summary: India 1.44 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), South Africa 9.00, The Draw 4.00.

What are the top batsman odds for India v South Africa?

Rohit Sharma celebrated his first game as a test opener with a brilliant 176. But, he was eventually outdone by Mayank Agarwal. Playing in just his fifth test, Agarwal passed 200 and both men are hot contenders in India’s top batsman market for Pune. Rohit is available at 4.00 with Betway. But as always, Virat Kohli is the favourite at 3.50.

Cheteshwar Pujara is the third favourite at 4.50, while Mayank Agarwal slots in at 5.00. Other picks for India include Shubman Gill at 5.50, Ajinkya Rahane at 8.00, and Hanuma Vihari at 12.00.

Our instincts told us that Dean Elgar would top score for South Africa and the left hander duly delivered with 160 on first innings. Elgar is now the joint favourite in his side’s top batsman market. Along with skipper Faf Du Plessis, he can be picked up at 4.50.

Aiden Markram is the third favourite at 5.00. Meanwhile, Quinton De Kock’s century in the first game makes him a tempting pick at a generous 6.50. With South Africa having a long tail, the only real challengers to these four batters are Theunis De Bruyn at 6.50, and Temba Bavuma at 7.00.

Our pick for the first game was Cheteshwar Pujara. We’re going to keep faith with India’s number three once again. While Rohit and Agarwal put on 317 for the first wicket last time out, Pujara had to up the tempo and that’s not his game.

We may need an early wicket to fall this time. But if that scenario lands, Pujara’s patient approach can deliver the profit.

Top Batsman Odds Summary: India: Kohli 3.50, Rohit Sharma 4.00, Pujara 4.50 (Betway – Editor’s Pick), Agarwal 5.00, Gill 5.50, Rahane 8.00, Vihari 12.00.

South Africa: Du Plessis 4.50, Elgar 4.50, Markram 5.00, De Kock 6.50, De Bruyn 6.50, Bavuma 7.00.

What are the Man of the Match odds for India v South Africa?

Virat Kohli was a little too short for us in the top batsman market. But, we do think this is a game where the skipper’s batting can have a big say. Over two innings, Kohli has time to have more of an influence. That’s why we look to him in the Man of the Match betting.

He’s still the favourite here. However, at odds of 6.50, there is much better value on offer. So, we’ll finish with this as our final Satta of the game. We’ll list some other Man of the Match options below. But Kohli has the chance to provide a high return, which will hopefully add to a good overall profit.

Man of the Match Odds Summary: Kohli 6.50 (Bet365 – Editor’s Pick), Rohit Sharma 8.50, Ashwin 9.00, Jadeja 9.00, Agarwal 13.00, Elgar 19.00, De Kock 21.00, Rabada 21.00.
