India vs Sri Lanka – Day 1 of 2nd Test

By Dhanu Delphi on November 24, 2017

The second Test of the Sri Lanka cricket tour of India has begun. The first Test took place in Eden Gardens, Calcutta, and ended in a draw. The rainy weather and bad visibility meant that the playing time was drastically reduced. India has entered the second Test with confidence after only just missing out on a win in the first Test.

Sri Lanka Win the Toss

The second Test is being played in Nagpur at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium.

Sri Lanka won the toss, and elected to bat first. The team ended first day play with 205/10. Sri Lanka lost a number of wickets in fast succession towards the end of play. One might have expected a better total since the game began on a batting-friendly pitch.
Sri Lanka had a slow start in the morning, making just 47 runs. The second session of the day came with 105 runs. It was in the final session, after tea time, that Sri Lanka lost a number of wickets close together.
India’s Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed four Sri Lankan batsmen. Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma each dismissed three players.

Once the Sri Lankans had finished their first innings, the Indian team had eight overs to bat today. India ended on 11/1, and will continue in the morning.

Early Dismissal for KL Rahul

The Sri Lankan team did not have the best start to the second Test as far as batting is concerned. However, Sri Lanka did manage to dismiss KL Rahul a lot earlier than would have been expected. Lahiru Gamage bowled to Rahul, dismissing him at 7/1.

Rahul had played a shot away from his body, resulting in the ball hitting the middle of the stumps.

The Sri Lankan team is upbeat, and according to their skipper, they hope to stick to their game plans and “put the Indians under pressure.”
