India Seals T20 Series, Thanks To Deepak Chahar Hat Trick

By Dhanu Delphi on November 11, 2019

The third and final T20 between India and Bangladesh was a series decider as both teams were at 1-1. However, it was a pretty one-sided game as Bangladesh struggled with both bat and ball. India went on to win the game by 30 runs and win the T20 series as Deepak Chahar had himself an excellent match.

Shreyas Iyer Shows His Class

Bangladesh, as the underdog at betting sites, won the toss and decided to ask India to bat and was quickly on top as they dismissed the dangerous Rohit Sharma (2) and Shikhar Dhawan (19) cheaply.

This was what Bangladesh wanted from the start. To get rid of the dangerous openers and see if they can put the pressure on the middle-order. However, KL Rahul steadied the ship and played a good knock scoring 52 of 35 balls. He hit 7 fours in his innings and finished with a strike rate of 148.

The player who has looked dangerous all series was Shreyas Iyer. He changed the momentum of the game by once again taking charge of the situation. Iyer played freely and scored 62 of 33 balls, hitting 3 fours and 5 sixes before getting out in the 17th over. He scored at a strike rate of 187 and helped India get to a formidable total of 174/5.

Deepak Chahar Picks Up A Hat Trick

India decided to leave out Krunal Pandya and strengthen the batting by bringing in Manish Pandey. It left their bowling a little thin. It also put pressure on Shivam Dube to bowl his full quota of overs. Deepak Chahar, who has been good all series, did not get the new ball in the third T20. Instead, Sharma decided to give it to Khaleel Ahmed, who has been expensive all series.

Ahmed did not pick up wickets but he did manage to bowl a lot more economically. D Chahar was brought on first change and he immediately struck taking 2 wickets in 2 balls. He dismissed Soumya Sarkar (0) and Mohammad Mithun (27) to have Bangladesh reeling.

Dube also delivered with the ball as he picked up opener Mohammad Naim (81), who looked the most dangerous of all the Bangladesh batsmen. He took two more wickets, including Mushfiqur Rahim (0) and Afif Hossain (0) to finish with a good spell of 4-0-30-3.

The day belonged to D Chahar, who came back for his second spell and picked up a hat-trick. Chahar picked up Shadman Islam from the last ball of the 18th over. He then came back to bowl the final over and took back to back wickets to complete a hat-trick.  He picked up Mustafizur Rahman and Aminul Islam to seal the victory for India. D Chahar finished with phenomenal figures of 4-0-7-6.

His performance in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been admirable as he has led from the front. He not only won the Man of the Match award, but also went on to win the Man of the Series award.

Rohit Sharma Happy With Fight Back

Sharma was happy to captain India to another series win. He praised his bowlers for being able to deliver, even though there was so much dew around. He also singled out KL Rahul and Iyer for putting together a good partnership that helped India put up a decent total.

Sharma said that Virat Kohli and the selectors will now have a good headache as the bench strength has performed. This gives India a lot of options ahead of the T20 World Cup that takes place next year in Australia. India will continue to experiment with the squad in the lead up to the T20 World Cup before shortlisting the final 15!
