We have entered the final part of the Sri Lanka tour of India. The first of three T20 International matches between India and Sri Lanka has taken place.
India has won by a huge 93 runs. The Indian team reached 180/3 in 20 overs, while the Sri Lankan team only made 87 – all out in 16 overs.
India has had somewhat weak starts in the One Day Internationals and Tests during this tour. This huge win has been an excellent strong start to the T20I series.
Player of the Match
India’s Yuzvendra Chahal was announced as player of the match.
Chahal said: “When we started bowling, I was confused for the first few balls about my fielding and all. I got into a good rhythm with Tharanga’s wicket off the third ball.”
He also commented that he and Kuldeep “both enjoy bowling with each other.”
Sri Lanka’s worst run of T20I losses is seven in a row. At this time, the team stands on six consecutive losses, and will equal their worst run if they do not win the upcoming match.
The match has come with record highs for India, and record lows for Sri Lanka.
India’s biggest run total winning margin in T20Is was achieved in this match at Cuttack. The 93 run win contrasts with one of Sri Lanka’s lowest totals in a T20I. Sri Lanka received its lowest T20I total of 82 when playing against India in 2016. The total for this match was 87, which matches the 87 runs for Sri Lanka when playing against Australia earlier this year.
Second T20 International Match Coming Soon
After the good match for India in the Barbati Stadium in Cuttack, the teams will be moving on to Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. The match is set to take place on Friday, 22nd December 2017.
