By Matt Harris on May 27, 2019

The Indian cricket team played against New Zealand in their first warm-up match ahead of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. While most cricket bettors and fans would have expected an easy win for India, it was not to be. New Zealand beat the Indian cricket team by six wickets.

India won the toss, and chose to bat first. The team reached a total of 179 all out in 39.2 overs. New Zealand had to reach a very attainable target of 180. The New Zealand cricket team won the warm-up match with 180/4 in 37.1 overs.

Sachin Says No Need to Panic

There is some concern that New Zealand beat India by such a large margin at The Oval in London. Sachin Tendulkar, the Indian cricket legend, said that there is no need to panic about the warm-up game loss. He said that the warm-up matches give teams the chance to try out various combinations ahead of the main tournament.

Sachin commented: “I feel they need to just settle down. One or two games, in a tournament like the World Cup, can go the other way. During warm-up games, India just needs to assess the playing conditions thoroughly, and make full use of it during the tournament. So I will not panic at the moment.”

The cricket legend also noted that he has no plans to judge the Indian cricket team after each game. He explained that things happen during the course of a tournament. In addition to this, the warm-up match is not part of the tournament. Sachin mentioned the possibility that teams can also play different lineups on purpose thereby keeping their starting XI secret.

“Most of the teams do not want to expose their proper starting XI, and have rested their key bowlers and batsmen during the warm-up games. At the same time, they are also trying out different combinations to ascertain what players can prove helpful in different playing conditions.”

In addition to this, Sachin suggested we keep an eye on Afghanistan. The team may currently have the worst World Cup betting odds when it comes to a win in the tournament. Afghanistan’s Bet365 odds are currently at 101.00 for an outright win. Afghanistan beat Pakistan in their warm-up match. The team has excellent spin bowlers in their lineup.
