The Indian cricket team has arrived in Florida ahead of the upcoming Twenty20 Internationals against the West Indies. There will be two matches played, with the first One Day International on Saturday, 27th August, and the second One Day International on Sunday, 28th August.
Cricket fans have flown in to watch the live cricket match in Fort Lauderdale at the Central Broward Regional Park. Both Indian ex-pats and those who are U.S. cricket fans share the excitement at the prospect of watching live cricket in the United States. There have only been two other full international cricket matches that have previously taken place in the U.S.
The Central Broward Regional Park is the first cricket ground in the United States to have been sanctioned by the International Cricket Council for One Day International-level cricket matches.
David Richardson noted: “The ICC has approved these matches because we believe they can play a significant role in the long term development of cricket in the USA and our ongoing efforts to unify the USA cricket community.”
He further commented: “Having the ICC World T20 Champions playing India in Florida will undoubtedly inspire both existing and new fans and players, but perhaps more importantly, the sanction fees will be invested into the ICC’s ongoing work to lay a sustainable foundation for the development of cricket in America.”
The matches this weekend are expected to be exciting. The West Indies recently lost in the Twenty20 format to India. The team is, however, the current defending champion of this format after having won the World T20 title. India currently holds the number 2 position in the T20 cricket format, while the West Indies is at number 3. New Zealand is ranked first at this time.
The matches have sparked much interest, and it has been predicted that the grounds will be sold out. The matches are set to take place at 10.00am in Florida, United States, which coincides with the prime time to watch cricket in India.
