Indian Wrestlers Win Medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games

2014 Glasgow Commonwealth GamesThe Indian wrestlers have been doing well at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. India’s wrestlers won two gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal.

Yogeshwar Dutt, an Olympic bronze medalist, has won a gold medal for wrestling in Glasgow. He beat Jevon Balfour from Canada while fighting in the men’s freestyle 65kg category. Dutt won the fifth wrestling gold medal. He was announced as the winner after a 10 – 0 lead that took place in the first 1.53 minutes of the first period. He won on the grounds of technical superiority.

Babita Kumari won the women’s freestyle 55kg gold medal earlier in the day. She beat the Canadian Brittanee Laverdure 9 – 2 when she earned the fourth gold medal for wrestling for India. Kumari, the 24-year-old wrestler had won the silver medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. She beat the 32-year-old Canadian opponent who had injured her finger during the wrestling match. Babita was certainly on top form, and Laverdure only managed to score points within the last 15 seconds of the bout.

India certainly seems to be fulfilling expectations and has been winning a large number of medals, many of which have been gold medals. Athletics discus thrower, Vikas Gowda won a gold medal for India, the first athletics gold medal in this year’s Commonwealth Games.
