The Australian Open tennis championship is currently underway in Melbourne, Australia. Rohan Bopanna, from India, is partnered with Daniel Nestor, from Canada, for the men’s doubles. Bopanna and Nestor played hard in order to make it to the second round of the tournament. The pair recently won the Sydney International tournament.
The team held the seventh seed, and managed to win their match in one hour and thirty-six minutes with a score of 7 – 6 (2), 7 – 5. Bopanna and Nestor beat Marcos Baghdatis from Cyprus and Marinko Matosevic from Australia.
To begin with, both teams played badly on the serves. Bopanna’s team had nine breakpoints during the match, and managed to convert only three of them, while their opponents had six breakpoint opportunities, and only managed to convert two of them. The first set had both teams playing on a similar level, but when it came to the second set, the Bopanna-Nestor team came into their own, and were playing better than the Baghdatis-Matosevic team.
Mahesh Bhupathi, a veteran Indian player played his match partnered with Jurgen Melzer from Austria. The team played their opening match today, and did not make it through to the next round.
Bhupathi and Melzer played against the Argentinean pair, made up of Horacio Zeballos and Diego Schwartzman. The Argentineans won the match in just one hour and seven minutes with a score of 4 – 6, 3 – 6. Bupathi and Melzer struggled to get into the rhythm of the game, and did not really get their game going before it was over. While the pair did manage to serve six aces, they made too many unforced errors, with 27 in total. The first set came with 12 unforced errors, and the second set came with Zeballos and Schwartzman only made nine unforced errors.
