India’s Sporting Community Mourns Former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee

The former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, died on Thursday at 93-years-old. India’s sporting community, from cricket to boxing, and chess, mourn the former PM’s loss, and have sent many condolence messages.

Vajpayee, was a much-respected and admired PM, and a strong pillar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The PM influenced sports in a positive way, and contributed to India in many different ways. He spent the last nine weeks of his life in hospital, and was stable for much of the time. His condition took a turn for the worse earlier this week, and he passed away on 16th August 2018.

Condolence Messages from Sachin Tendulkar and Many Others

There are a large number of condolence messages filled with positive comments, and messages of love and respect. The people clearly loved the former Prime Minister.

Sachin Tendulkar Tweeted: “India is at a great loss today. Shri #AtaiBihariVajpayee ji’s contributions to our nation have been innumerable. Thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones.”

The BCCI took to Twitter to say the following: “The Indian Cricket Team and BCCI condoles the sad demise of former India Prime Minister Shri Atai Bihari Vajpayee. Atalji dedicated his life in service of the nation.”

Vijender Singth, the Olympic boxer, noted: “One of the greatest PM this country has ever seen. A visionary, a poet, a statesman, a man who won over millions of hearts. A Man who deserves nothing but respect. Bharat Ratna #AtalBihariVajpayee is no more with us. His contribution for the motherland will inspire generations to come.”

Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, the Sports Minister, summed up the feelings of the nation: “#AtalBihariVajpayee ji – A leader par excellence, a daring PM who made Pokhran possible, a highly principled politician & poet of inspirational grit who was admired across party lines. His demise is an irreparable loss, and marks the end of an era.”
