Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings Xi Punjab Win Matches

This weekend saw exciting, quality cricket, providing an excellent close to the first week of the 2019 Indian Premier League. Here are the IPL 2019 results as week two gets underway.

IPL 2019 Results: Week 1 Complete

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals

Sunrisers Hyderabad beat the Rajasthan Royals by five wickets with six balls left. The Rajasthan Royals won the toss, and chose to bat first. The team reached a big run target of 199. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad easily chased this big run total with balls to spare. The final score then saw the Rajasthan Royals set a run total at 198/2 vs the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 201/5. Moreover, this was the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s first winning match all season. The match took place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

The Rajasthan Royals played well with 70 runs from Ajinkya Rahane, the team’s captain, and opener. Jos Buttler only managed to add five runs, but Sanju Samson made a century with 102 runs, not out. Ben Stokes added 16 runs, not out. While the Rajasthan Royals played well, Sunrisers Hyderabad swooped in and did better. Rajasthan Royal’s captain felt the team set a good run total, and that it was a pity that Samson’s century was in vain.

David Warner opened for Sunrisers Hyderabad with 69 runs, while Jonny Bairstow added a respectable 45 runs to the total. Also notable was Vijay Shankar’s 35 runs. Kane Williamson, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s captain, praised the openers. He also commended Rashid Khan for his bowling, and his batting skills. Khan received the Man of the Match award.

Kings XI Punjab vs Mumbai Indians

IPL 2019 results to complete Week 1 also saw Kings XI Punjab beat the Mumbai Indians with eight wickets and eight balls left. The match took place at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium. Kings XI Punjab won the toss, electing to bowl first. The home team subsequently won the match by eight wickets with eight balls left. The final score saw Mumbai Indians with 176/7 in 20 overs, and Kings XI Punjab with 177/2 in 18.4 overs.

Rohit Sharma opened for the Mumbai Indians with 32 runs, alongside Quinton de Kock with 60 runs. Next up Suryakumar Yadav made 11 runs, and Yuvraj Singh added 18 to the total. However, Kerion Pollard only added seven runs, while Hardik Pandya boosted the run total by 31. Krunal Pandya added 10. The Mumbai Indians set a run target of 177. The team started out strong, collapsing in the middle order. The bowlers struggled to pick wickets in this match.

Kings XI Punjab played well right from the start. K L Rahul opened with 71 runs, not out. Chris Gayle contributed 40 runs, and Mayank Agarwal added 43. David Miller added eight runs, not out, bringing the Kings XI Punjab to a win. Furthermore, Kings XI Punjab sustained good playing, leaving no doubt they would reach the run target. It’s always good to win with a professional chase. This is especially true at home in front of the team’s fans and supporters.

For his very quick 43 runs off of 21 balls, Mayank Agarwal earned the Man of the Match award.
