Will India beat Ireland in First T20 cricket match?
India play the first of two T20 cricket internationals against Ireland in Dublin on Wednesday and will be hoping to find some form ahead of the more challenging series against England that follows. Preparation hasn’t been ideal with Virat Kohli having to rest up with injury while the majority of this side were barely tested during the two-day win over Afghanistan.
It’s been a few weeks since the IPL betting season came to a conclusion but the tourists will be hoping to take that T20 form straight into Wednesday’s contest.
We continue to see upsets in the shortest form of the game and Ireland have picked up some major international scalps over the years, but the match result market is a one-sided one. India start as red-hot favourites at 1.08 with Betway and Ireland are back at 7.50 with Bet365.
In T20 cricket, Ireland depend heavily on the power hitting of Kevin O’Brien who will be a key player for them. Conditions can also work in their favour at times but we’ve seen a clear, warm and dry period in Dublin and there is no forecast for rain.
In a full game with no interruptions, there is simply no comparison in terms of quality within the squads. Get behind India here, if you don’t mind backing high-priced favourites.
Match Odds Summary: Ireland 7.50 (Bet365), India 1.08 (Betway – our pick)
There should be some better value in the top batsmen betting market. Virat Kohli is the obvious favourite for India to score the most runs for his side on Wednesday. The skipper is available at 3.50 with Bet365 while Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma can both be picked up at 4.00 with Bet365 again.
If the middle and late order are required to spend any time at the crease, Suresh Raina could be profitable at 4.50 while MS Dhoni at 9.00 and Hardik Pandya at 11.00 offer serious value in the death overs.
Moving across to Ireland’s version of this market and once again, Bet365 is the main bookies to follow but we know that its prices are always going to be strong. For Wednesday’s match, Paul Stirling is the favourite to score the most Irish runs at 4.33, followed by Will Porterfield at 4.50.
Ed Joyce has retired and that means it’s time for some unfamiliar names to step up. James Shannon could be the one to watch here at 4.50 while Kevin O’Brien (7.00) and Gary Wilson (7.50) are tempting choices too.
We’re going with a small wager on Kevin O’Brien and, as an overall tip, Shikhar Dhawan looks to have the most consistent form for India. We’ll back the left-hander at 4.00.
Top batsman summary:
India Kohli 3.50, Dhawan 4.00 (our pick), Rohit 4.00, Raina 4.50, Dhoni 9.00, Hardik Pandya 11.00.
Ireland: Stirling 4.33, Porterfield 4.50, Shannon 4.50, O’Brien, Wilson 7.50.
Other side bets
There isn’t a huge choice of markets for this match and that’s fairly typical of a game where one team is expected to win comfortably. One bet that does carry a good price is for Ireland to lose a wicket in their first over and this is available at a generous 4.00 with Betway.
Whether they bat first or second, the home side will have to attack from the very first ball and against a strong seamer – possibly Jasprit Bumrah or Bhuvneshwar Kumar – Ireland’s openers could be very vulnerable first up.
Ireland to lose a wicket in the first over odds summary: Yes 4.00 (our pick), No 1.20.
