Now that the Indian Premier League is over, Team India is getting ready for the next batch of cricket fixtures. It is just one week to go before India and Afghanistan begin a Test match, after which India and Ireland will play two T20 games.
Historical Game for Afghanistan
The Afghanistan cricket team will be playing a Test match against India between 14th and 18th June 2018. Afghanistan will be captained by Asghar Stanikzai, and India will be led by Ajinkya Rahane.
The Test match is an important one, and particularly noteworthy for Afghanistan. It will be the first time that Afghanistan are playing a Test since being granted Test status from the ICC (International Cricket Council). Test status was given to Afghanistan a year ago in June 2017. After it was granted the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and the ACB (Afghanistan Cricket Board) confirmed that they would play against each other in June 2018.
The Test match is set to take place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. India has never before hosted a Test match in the month of June.
India Tour of Ireland
The Indian cricket team will be doing a short tour in Ireland ahead of its England tour. The last time that India played cricket on Irish soil was in 2007 in Belfast. This month, the two teams will meet at two T20 International matches in Dublin.
The first T20 International will be played on 27th June 2018, and the second is set for 29th June 2018. Both games will take place in the Malahide Cricket Club Ground in Malahide, Ireland.
Virat Kohli Injury
Virat Kohli, the Indian team’s skipper, was injured during the IPL on 17th May 2018. He had planned to play for the Surrey County Cricket Club for the month of June. Since he was injured, his time with the Surrey team was cancelled. He will not be fit to play in the Afghanistan game. Kohli hopes to be ready to play in the Ireland and England tours.
