Kevin-PietersenKevin Pietersen was set to play for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2015. Pietersen now has a chance in which he could quailify to play for England, and wants to give that his best shot in the hopes that he will qualify. Unfortunately, this will mean that he is unavailable to the Sunrisers Hyderabad during the IPL.

The IPL cricket team and Pietersen have reached an agreement whereby he will be released from at least the first phase of this year’s Indian Premier League. Pietersen will miss the league fixtures, however, he will rejoin the team if they should reach the knockout stages of the IPL. The knockout stage is set to begin on 19th May and will end with the final match on 24th May.

Pietersen’s goal is to join the England cricket team for the next Ashes series. In the hopes of earning a place on the team, he will be playing domestic cricket in England for Surrey. Pietersen has already played in four winning Ashes teams. He has played in 104 Tests, and in England, Pietersen holds the record for the highest ever run scorer across all formats.

Playing for England is important to Pietersen, and he expressed his thanks to the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the IPL. He said: “I’m hugely grateful for all the support and understanding I’ve received from everyone at the Sunrisers and the IPL.”

He further noted: “My focus us now very much on the upcoming season in England and I’m absolutely determined to scare as many runs as possible. I’ve never made any secret of my overwhelming desire to once again represent England and I’m going to do everything in my power to earn a recall to the international set-up.”

Pietersen said that it would be a privilege and an honour to put on the England shirt again, however, he knows that he first has to focus on playing well domestically in order to merit being selected for the England team.
