Virat Kohli, playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, hit a ball towards the boundary, sure of yet another six. Little did he know that Kiwi Trent Boult, playing for Delhi Daredevils, was going to dive, and catch, the ball.
Greatest IPL Catch Ever
The video footage of Boult’s catch has gone viral. It is being referred to as the greatest catch ever made during the Indian Premier League.
Boult saw the ball coming, and jumped with his right hand reaching for the ball. He was right near the boundary rope, and managed to stop his dive just before he crossed it. Boult landed on his stomach just inside the boundary.
The commentator shouted: “This is the Vivo perfect catch of the season! Trent Boult, what are you doing? This is the best catch we have ever seen in the IPL when you think of the enormity of the situation.”
The umpires, along with everyone else, were stunned by what they had witnessed. In order to be sure they were making the right call, a third umpire reviewed the catch.
Michael Vaughan, the former England cricketer, took to Twitter to share his thoughts: “I think we could quite easily have just seen the greatest ever catch.”
Great Catch Did Not Bring a Win
Boult may have dismissed Kohli with a perfect catch, but unfortunately for the Delhi Daredevils, the game did not end in a win.
Although a somewhat bewildered Kohli had to leave the game, AB de Villiers was there to take the Royal Challengers Bangalore to a win. De Villiers made an impressive 90 runs off of just 39 balls. No matter how impressive the South African batsman played, this match will most likely be remembered for the astounding catch by the New Zealand player, Trent Boult.
The Daredevils lost the match by six wickets.
